Our main objective is to bring every child back to its family. But every so often we will shelter children who are left behind with no family connections. Or in some cases the mother is in no condition to take care of her child. First our social workers will try to trace the families of the children. We usually use radio messages, an add in the local newspaper, and we put up posters in the area where the child was found. If they will have no result, we will look for a family to adopt the child.

Some of our children are adopted by foreign family’s. Partly because we were not able to find local families to adopt. Nowadays the law has changed, making it harder for children to go to foreign families. The parents who want to adopt a child have to live in Uganda for at least a year. Otherwise they cannot leave with the child. Luckily now we are able to find more local families to adopt children. The adoption is handled by probation office and legalized by court. The probation officer officially hands the child to its new parents.
